UK Government Apologises for Armed Forces LGBTQ+ Ban

On 19 July 2023, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak issued a formal apology in the House of Commons on behalf of the British state to LGBTQ+ veterans and service personnel dismissed or mistreated under the historic ban on serving, alongside the publication of the LGBT Veterans Independent Review. The Government accepted the review's 49 recommendations in December 2023.

The apology marked an official acknowledgement of past harm and opened the door to further redress for affected veterans and their families.
