Mexico Passes Federal Ban on Conversion Therapy

The Mexican Senate approved a nationwide ban on conversion therapy with a 77-4 vote, imposing two to six years' imprisonment for individuals who promote, practise, teach, compel, or finance conversion therapy. Two predecessor bills had stalled since 2020. Several Mexican states and Mexico City had already enacted local bans prior to the federal law.
Impact & Significance
Established the first comprehensive federal conversion therapy ban in Latin America, building on earlier regional protections across Mexican states.
