Germany Bans Conversion Therapy for Minors

The German Bundestag passed the Act to Protect against Conversion Treatments, banning conversion therapy on all persons under 18 and on adults who are subjected to coercion. Practitioners face up to one year in prison, and advertising conversion therapy to minors carries fines of up to €30,000. Health Minister Jens Spahn stated that 'homosexuality is not a disease.'

As Europe's largest economy, Germany's ban added significant momentum to the growing international consensus against conversion therapy.
